EXCELLENT Based on 60 reviews John Slone2024-12-17Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My first trip to the fish the San Juan did not disappoint. This year for my oldest sons 20th birthday we made the decision to fish the San Juan. Never having fished it before and having no knowledge of any guides on the Juan, I was going in blind. I spoke with 4 guides before I received my return call from Jack. I will start by saying, my search for guides on the San Juan was disheartening to say the least. That is until I spoke with Jack. Jack was interested in my objectives, willing to answer my questions, had no problems sharing his knowledge and over all polite and friendly. Our time on the river with Jack was a mirror image of the the knowledgeable guy I spoke with on the phone. we had an amazing day with Jack in early November and while I have only been fly fishing for 5 years, this trip was a highlight. I plan to see you again in January Jack. Thanks for all the help. John Slone Steve Taggart2024-12-01Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My brother and I live in Idaho near storied waters like the Henry’s Fork and the South Fork of the Snake River. For Thanksgiving we were in Arizona and had the pleasure of spending a day with Jack in his boat on the San Juan River. We had a superb experience. Jack is incredibly knowledgeable, a great coach and very personable. Beautiful area with reasonable temperatures when Idaho is cold. The San Juan is very different than our home waters. Deeper in spots with slow moving currents and shallow and faster in others. The flies are small and the trout are selective. The fish are large, fat and very healthy. I took some time to master the much more aggressive necessary hook set. Jack was patient and persistent until I got it. We had bite after bite. My brother landed a personal best. Highly recommend using Jack as a guide! We plan to come back in a few months . . Shawni Graham2024-10-29Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. There’s something about fishing with a group who truly knows the territory and navigates it with muscle memory. Respectful, easy communication, and we all got on some fish. Highly suggest Fishing Jack! paul zellhoefer2024-08-05Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We wade fished and had a great day of fishing. Jack is easy to be with and very knowledgeable about his craft. He also has a boat, but I like to wade we fished all over the place. The day went by pretty fast as we caught plenty of fish and the day couldn't have been better. Thank you Jack for a great day on the river. Constructed between 1958-1962, Navajo Dam paved the way for one of the most iconic tailwaters in the United States. The dam was built to control flooding and provide a steady water supply for the Navajo Irrigation Project. However, the by-product of constructing a dam which releases very cold water would be highly conducive to building a sustainable fishery. Flash forward many years later, and the San Juan is one of the most renowned fisheries in the world!
With around 13,000 fish per mile, the Quality Waters produces one of the healthiest rainbow and brown trout populations in the nation. The average size fish ranges from 16-20 inches, but 30+ inch fish are not uncommon. The fish feed regularly on small bugs (size 20-28) which are their main food source. The abundance of midges, mayflies, scuds and snails all contribute to keeping the San Juan such a legendary river. Nonetheless, the fishing can be termed “technical” by many.
